“Enhancing Public Health Strategies Towards Industrial Revolution 4.0”

The greatest threats of global health in 2018 are the rapid growth of non-communicable diseases, pandemic preparedness, and global health security, including the threat of antimicrobial resistance. Several major diseases currently affect countries globally, namely HIV/AIDS, malaria, Zika, and tuberculosis. Rapid identification and control of emerging infectious diseases helps to promote health, to prevent the international spread of disease, and to protect the health of population. Other possible solutions arranged include creating medical opportunities for those in need and finding ways for families to sustain themselves with suitable amount of food and water.

Public health scholars and practitioners should take part of the solution to this challenge. Evidence shows that public health interventions are more cost-effective or more equivalent to health care interventions. In spite of this, there are several public health challenges, such as the belief that prevention care may cost more than treatment, the longer timelines required for public health interventions, the influence of certain groups of people, and the reality that preventive treatments are not covered by health insurance.
The possible ways to solve these issues are developing health policies and laws, optimizing global health finance and a political commitment to make health a priority. To address the global health issues and barriers related to public health roles, communication between researchers, decision makers, health professionals, students, and lecturers are needed. This will be the point of view of the 52nd Asia Pacific Academic Consortium of Public Health Conference.

Faculty of Public Health Universitas Airlangga has experiences in various international symposium activities and conferences, such as the International Symposium of Public Health (this year is the third year), The International Conference of Public Heath, etc. FPH Universitas Airlangga has also been a member of APACPH for 25 years, and routinely sends staff and students to various APACPH conferences every year. Thus, we strongly believe it should be the most suitable time for the Faculty of Public Health Universitas Airlangga to host the 52nd Asia Pacific Academic Consortium of Public Health Conference.
